MB Regulation 217 / 2006 and W210 Act
Part 2 - General Safety Duties, Part 4 - General Workplace Requirements, Employer Duties
Now that spring has officially sprung, contractors are gearing up for another busy season. Here are some things to keep in mind when getting ready for the construction season:
- Every workplace with 20 or more workers must have a written safety and health program;
- The employer must keep a copy of the Act and Regulation readily available to workers on-site;
- Prime Contractors must post their company name, location of first aid service or supplies, an on-site contact name and number, and contact information of the safety committee or on-site safety rep;
- Workplaces must be sufficiently lit so that workers can perform their job safely, including an emergency lighting system;
- The employer must ensure that there is an adequate supply of drinking water available to workers on the job (i.e. drinking fountain, water cooler, bottled water);
- Washroom facilities must be kept clean and sanitary, supplied with toilet tissue, and adequately heated, lit, and ventilated (refer to Part 4.8 for information on the number of facilities required in a workplace);
- Construction sites with five or more workers must have toolbox meetings at a minimum of 30 minutes every two weeks;
- Every construction site must have, at minimum (not withstanding the requirements of a committee), a site supervisor and a safety representative not associated with management.
CSAM can help meet these requirements - stop in and inquire about our CONSTRUCTION SITE signs, coil-bound Act and Regulation books, and First-Aider/Safety Rep hardhat stickers!
