1. Introduction

The Construction Safety Association of Manitoba (“CSAM,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of the individuals and organizations that interact with us. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and what rights and choices are available to you.

This policy applies to information collected through our website, the SHIELD member and training management platform, and any other services or platforms we operate or use in delivering our programs.

We collect personal information only when you specifically and knowingly provide it to us, or when we are required or permitted to collect it in connection with delivering our services. We are committed to handling your personal information responsibly and in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy legislation.

2. What Is Personal Information?

“Personal information” is information about an identifiable individual. For the purposes of this policy, personal information includes, but is not limited to:

  • Your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number
  • Your employer, job title, and organizational affiliation
  • Your training records, course registrations, completions, and certification history
  • Your audit records and COR® certification status (for companies)
  • Payment transaction records (note: CSAM does not store payment card data — see Section 6)

Information that cannot reasonably be linked to an identifiable individual — such as anonymized, aggregated statistical data — is not considered personal information for the purposes of this policy.

3. Information We Collect

a) Information You Provide Directly

When you register for training, apply for or renew membership, submit an audit, request access to our platform, or contact us, you may provide personal information such as your name, contact details, employer information, and training or certification history.

b) Information Collected Through the SHIELD Platform

CSAM operates SHIELD, our member and training management platform. Through SHIELD, we collect and maintain:

  • Learner profiles and training records
  • Course registrations and completion records
  • Audit submissions and COR® certification records
  • Membership and organizational account information
  • Org Manager account information and associated company and employee records

c) Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, we automatically collect certain technical information through cookies and analytics tools, including your browser type, the pages you visit, and the time spent on our site. For more information, see Section 8.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Administer and deliver training programs, designations, and certification services
  • Process course registrations and maintain training and certification records
  • Manage memberships and organizational accounts in SHIELD
  • Process audit submissions and track COR® certification status
  • Communicate with you about your account, courses, registrations, or services
  • Process payments securely through our third-party payment processor
  • Meet our reporting obligations to SAFE Work Manitoba under our agreement with WCB Manitoba (see Section 5)
  • Publish COR® certified company information as part of our certification program (see Section 7)
  • Analyze and improve our website and services using aggregated, anonymized analytics data

5. Disclosure to Third Parties

CSAM does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We may share personal information only in the circumstances described below.

a) SAFE Work Manitoba — Reporting Under Agreement with WCB

CSAM operates under a contractual agreement with the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB). Under this agreement, we are required to share certain information with SAFE Work Manitoba. This includes:

  • Course completion information for high-hazard SAFE Work Endorsed (SET) Training Standards courses
  • Audit Instrument Scoring
  • COR® certification status

These disclosures are required under our agreement with WCB Manitoba and are a condition of CSAM’s designation as an industry-based safety program / certifying partner / SET accredited training provider. They do not require your separate consent and cannot be declined as a condition of accessing our services.

b) Payment Processing — Moneris

Payments made through our platform are processed by Moneris, our third-party payment processor. CSAM does not collect, store, or have access to your payment card information. All payment data is handled directly and securely by Moneris in accordance with their own privacy policy and applicable payment industry security standards.

c) Third-Party Service Platforms

We use third-party platforms to support the delivery of certain services — for example, to process access requests, host video content, or manage forms. These platforms may collect and process information you provide as part of using those services. We select service providers that maintain appropriate privacy and security practices, and we do not authorize them to use your information for any purpose other than providing services on our behalf.

d) Aggregate and Statistical Information

We may use or share aggregated, non-personally identifying statistical information about our programs and participants for the purpose of reporting on, promoting, or improving our programs and services. This information does not identify any individual.

e) Other Disclosures Required by Law

We may disclose personal information where required by law, court order, or a lawful request from a government authority, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of CSAM, our members, or the public.

6. SHIELD Platform — Organizational Access to Employee Records

If you access CSAM’s training and membership services through your employer’s organizational membership, please be aware that your employer — through their designated Org Manager account in SHIELD — may have access to your training records, course registrations, and certification information associated with your account.

This access is a function of how organizational membership works: your employer’s membership with CSAM enables you to access our training and certification services, and your training records are part of the services delivered under that membership. By accessing CSAM services through your employer’s membership account, you acknowledge that your employer may view the training and certification records associated with your account through SHIELD.

If you have questions about how your employer manages or uses your records, please contact your employer directly. If you have questions about how CSAM handles your personal information, please contact us using the details in Section 10.

7. COR® Certified Company Listings

As part of the Certificate of Recognition (COR®) program, companies that achieve and maintain COR® certification are listed publicly on the CSAM website. This listing is a component of the COR® program and serves to recognize certified organizations and provide this information to the public.

The listing includes the company’s name, current COR® certification status, and basic contact information. By achieving COR® certification through CSAM, organizations acknowledge that this information may be published on our website and in related program materials. If your organization has concerns about this listing, please contact us at safety@constructionsafety.ca.
