By law, an employer is required to notify the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Branch of a serious incident by the fastest means of communication available.
Serious Incident Alerts include descriptions of the actual serious incidents reported to WSH Branch and are provided to raise awareness and initiate preventative actions as appropriate.
The following four incidents occurred on Manitoba construction projects in April 2022:
- A worker was backing away from a power pole when the worker tripped on a pile of lumber.
- A worker fell approximately 15 feet from a catwalk between scaffolding.
- A worker was changing wires when an arc flash occurred, coming in contact with the worker's hand.
- A worker was climbing down a ladder when the ladder gave way, causing the worker to fall approximately 15 feet to the ground.
